AEI has provided stage construction and maintenance of traffic plans for hundreds of bridge projects throughout the state of Michigan. Bridge repairs have ranged from minor preventative maintenance work to full structure replacement, with each type presenting a unique set of challenges.
Gordie Howe International Bridge Design-Build Project (Michigan Interchange) in the City of Detroit in Wayne County, Michigan
AEI was responsible for preparation of the stage construction plans for Package 1 and Package 2 of the Michigan Interchange portion of the Design-Build project to construct a new international bridge crossing between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. The plans for Package 1 and Package 2 included staging plans for work on I-75, the I-75 ramps and bridges between Springwells and Clark, the I-75 Service Drives, M-85, and numerous crossroads, including the major crossroads of Springwells, Livernois, Clark and Green.- Owner: Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority

I-94 Advanced Bridges in the City of Detroit in Wayne County Michigan
- AEI has been actively working on projects to replace structures over I-94 in advance of the future I-94 reconstruction Modernization project through Detroit. Phase 1 of design began in 2016 and included work on eight structures over I-94. Phase 2 of the project began in 2019 and includes 7 structures over I-94. AEI has been working for the Michigan Department of Transportation on these projects to prepare signing plans for the new structures and is assisting with preparation of plans for maintaining traffic during construction, including mentoring a small business firm in this task.

11 bridges on I-75 between Sibley Road and Goddard Road in Wayne County, Michigan
- Project included various bridge repairs on 11 structures carrying I-75 traffic over other facilities, including roadways, a drain, and a railroad. The project also included preventative maintenance work on I-75 from Sibley Road to Goddard Road.

I-96 under Pleasant Valley Road in Livingston County, Michigan
- Project included raising the superstructure on WB I-96 and the remaining span on EB I-96 under Pleasant Valley Road and span replacement on EB I-96 under Pleasant Valley Road.

I-75 bridges over the Rouge River and over M-85 (Fort Street), the NB I-75 off ramp over Conrail Railroad, and the I-75 on-ramp over Dearborn Street and Conrail Railroad; and the I-75 bridge over Goddard Road and over Sexton Kilfoil Drain in Wayne County, Michigan
Project included bridge deck removal and replacement of I-75 over the Rouge River. This bridge has the largest bridge deck area in the state of Michigan. The project also included deck replacement on I-75 over M-85 and total bridge replacement of I-75 over Goddard Road and Sexton-Kilfoil Drain. NB I-75 ramp to NB M-10 over M-10 in the City of Detroit in Wayne County, Michigan
- Project included deck replacement, beam end repairs, pier replacement / rehabilitation, modifications to the abutments and bridge approach reconstruction. Also included in the project was rehabilitation of 6 other structures on M-10 in Detroit.

M-85 (Fort Street) over the Rouge River in Wayne County, Michigan
Project included replacement of the bascule bridge carrying M-85 over the Rouge River. Bridge replacement also involved reconstruction of M-85 from south of Bayside Avenue to north of Miller Road, and portions of all intersecting streets (Bayside Avenue, Oakwood Boulevard, Denmark Street, Miller Road, and Reisener Street).- Owner: Michigan Department of Transportation

Notable Achievement:
Client was awarded the 2017 Engineering Merit Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The new Fort Street bridge is the heaviest bascule leaf in the world, at 8.2 million pounds, and the second largest by deck area, at over 15,000 square feet.I-96 under Wixom Road in Oakland County, Michigan
